The Buddy Holly Educational Foundation

The mission of The Buddy Holly Educational Foundation is to honor Buddy's legacy as well as to make Buddy and Maria Elena Holly’s dream of extending musical education, including songwriting, production, arranging, orchestration, and performance, to new generations regardless of income or ethnicity or learning levels. We will empower a new generation to follow in Buddy's footsteps.

TBHEF now has a fantastic roster of 24 International artists, most who have already been presented with a unique guitar.
18 of the guitars have installed behind the sound-hole an original fret from Buddy's Gibson J-45,the instrument he wrote so many of his great early songs on.
Each of the 24 guitars has a different Buddy/Cricket song title on the headstock, and also on the hand-made outer leather cover, which is identical to the one Buddy himself made.
Some of TBHEF artists are Ambassadors for the foundation as well, but all the artists have one thing in common,a mutual acknowledgement that Buddy's incredible music legacy has been a major influence in their own careers.

The artists will promote and publicise TBHEF in their own particular way,and some like Dave Stewart,Nokie Edwards,Waddy Watchel,Graham Nash,Alan Clark,Peter Frampton,Brent Mason,Sharleen Spiteri,Willie Nile,Mike Berry and Marty Wilde have already given us great support.
Dave has provided TBHEF with a great video performing Raining In My Heart,Waddy has recorded the most beautiful version of Words Of Love,The Hollies have allowed us to use their brilliant version of Peggy Sue Got Married and of course Nokie has just completed the superb instrumental CD for TBHEF

New internet Heartbeat Radio station devoted to the music of Buddy Holly

Heartbeat Radio, a station now available on Shoutcast features Buddy Holly's music 24/7, Matt Burley, the new station's program manager, told Vintage Rock 'n' Roll Examiner on Aug. 3. "The station will feature the complete Buddy Holly catalog, songs by musicians that influenced Holly, such as Elvis Presley and Little Richard and rare interviews with Holly and the Crickets," Burley told us.
He said the station will also include covers of Buddy Holly songs by current musicians that pay tribute to Holly's music today and shows how he still influences the music of today.
Both Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney contributed to a pair of competing Buddy Holly tribute CDs that were released in 2011 to honor what would have been the musician's 75th birthday. Paul McCartney contributed a raucous version of "It's So Easy" for Fantasy Records' "Rave On: Buddy Holly" on Fantasy Records (also available on Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.ca in Canada). Ringo Starr, contributed Holly's "Think It Over" to"Listen To Me: Buddy Holly" (also available on Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.ca in Canada), which was produced by Peter Asher (of Peter & Gordon) and Songmasters for the Verve/Forecast label.
Burley says this is unique. "I am a huge fan of Buddy's music and I have yet to see or hear of a Buddy Holly station," he said.
You can hear the station on Shoutcast internet radio. Burley is also in charge of Fab4Radio.com, which features music and information about the Beatles, including the weekly Beatles news podcast "Things We Said Today," which we co-host with Ken Michaels.

BUDDY HOLLY "TIME FLIES"

BUDDY HOLLY "TIME FLIES"

PB: 'Time Flies' pays tribute to Buddy Holly. Was he a PondHawks influence?
JG: Mario and I were on the phone surfing the net on February 2, 2009 and came across the 'Surf Ballroom' page. It mentioned that it was the 50th anniversary of the last Buddy Holly concert played there in Clear Lake, Iowa. Every year on that weekend they celebrate Buddy Holly. Many famous acts perform.
We always loved Buddy Holly's music, but weren't familiar with the events that transpired prior to his untimely death in 1959. Once we read the details, Mario and I began writing 'Time Flies'. In the song there are several references to Buddy's music.
MN: The instrumental break starts with mandolin and ends in electric guitar. Buddy Holly played a mandolin on his early demos and ended up as a guitarist. I wonder if any Buddy Holly fans will say "Yeah... I get it!"

BUDDY HOLLY **CRASH SITE**

***Visits Buddy Holly Plane Crash Site***

US 18 to North 8th Street north in Clear Lake for 4.7 miles. When the paved road (which has turned into Grouse Avenue) turns left (west), go right (east) on gravel road (310th Street), then immediately left (north) on Gull Avenue. Follow Gull Avenue for 1/2 mile, just past the grain bins to t-intersection of a gravel road from the right and first fence row on left (west). The fence begins at the street sign for "Gull Ave." and "315th St."(Look for large Buddy Holly glasses) Walk along the fence row west for just under 1/2 mile.

It was just another Iowa soybean field before the plane carrying Buddy Holly crashed there. Now, to fans, it's hallowed ground.

Ken Paquette, who lives in Portersfield, Wis., 50 miles north of Green Bay, wanted something permanent at the exact location of the crash. "People didn't know exactly where it was," said Paquette, a 50's era fan. "There were flowers scattered all along the fence line. I thought there should be something there."

Paquette made a stainless steel guitar and a set of three stainless steel records. On the guitar are the names Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper, along with the date of the crash, 2/3/59. On the records, there are the names of the recording labels and the big hits for the three artists: "Peggy Sue" on Coral, "Donna" on Del Fi and "Chantilly Lace" on Mercury.

The memorial is located on private property. Visitors are asked to respect their rights while visiting "The Place The Music Died."

Four trees were also planted along the fence row in 1999, one for each performer and the pilot.
